For the past 15 years, good food, big fun and quality service have been the hallmarks of Shorty Small’s success in Branson.
Open year-round in two locations (the original, located south on Highway 165 at Yellow Ribbon Road, and the newer Branson Landing restaurant), Shorty Small’s has been a staple in Branson for almost two decades. According to General Manager Michele Davis, Branson has been a top location in the corporation for years. “We realize that our excellent food is the draw, but the level of customer service is what keeps customers coming back,” Michele said. “We have great employees that give 100 percent, which really strengthens the restaurants’ appeal and success.”
The attention to customers’ needs has helped Shorty Small’s maintain a superior level of service. “We have a number of regular locals, and we have repeat customers that return from year to year,” Michele noted. “Branson is a great town, and the people are very friendly.”
It is a fortunate visitor who has sampled Shorty Small’s quality cuisine, but for those who have not yet ventured through Shorty’s doors, a few words of encouragement from management: “You have to try our ribs,” Michele said confidently. Shorty Small’s signature menu item is its “Jumpin-off-the-bone-
Tender” ribs, which are said to be the best around. Other notables include the BBQ Brisket and fried catfish, but there are many other great options, guaranteed to satisfy everyone in the family.
The restaurants are visually enjoyable as well. Decorated wall-to-wall with a vast array of antiques and novelties, many for sale, it is fun to soak up the atmosphere. From explaining the history of “Shorty,” a record of items for sale, and a humorous complimentary calendar, to the inside spread of actual food items, at Shorty Small’s even the menu offers entertainment. With Branson’s favorable weather, outdoor dining is equally inviting.
Shorty Small’s is definitely worth writing home about. “Create a Story” encourages employees to give 100% toward customer satisfaction, while rewarding them for their good deeds by publicizing the top “stories” of customer care. “Winning” noteworthy stories over the years have ranged from providing Pepsi that was not on draw, to peeling shrimp for a customer, and entertaining kids while their parents eat. “Our food comes out in 15 minutes, but people here aren’t hurried,” Michele explained. “The busier we are, the better we do. Our Score 4 program rates us based on customer comments, and we do very well. It’s never boring and customers are happy.”
