Village Grocery

Does anyone remember when a vacation on Hatteras Island meant packing up EVERYTHING for the family to eat and drink for the whole trip? Barbara and Harry Beierlein sure did, so when they relocated to Avon, they opened a full-service market where quality and customer service share top billing. While Barb and Harry manage the day-to-day operations, their partners, Jean-Louise and Dave Dixon provide behind-the-scenes support.

Village Grocery reflects the company slogan “Food is Good” down every aisle. There is an extensive microbrew collection; a large, varied wine selection; organic, natural and gluten-free choices; and half a row-full of sauces, marinades and unusual condiments. The butcher shop area offers Angus Certified Beef hand-cut on premises, premium meats, homemade salsa, fresh sushi, fresh local seafood in season, and local produce whenever possible. In the deli, the display of exclusively Boars Head meats and cheeses, homemade sides, yummy desserts, salad and soup bar, and made-to-order panini and wraps are a grab-and-go shopper’s nirvana. The Village Grocery inventory is always evolving because Barb, Harry and their store manager, Tony Soto, listen to their customers. Going green has always been an objective and biodegradable shopping bags are standard. This year native plants and a compost to recycle spent produce have brought the team closer to their goal.

Barb, Harry, Tony and their dedicated staff continue to provide an exceptional selection of products at fair prices and a family-oriented environment that makes food-shopping fun. And the checkout lines are never long! Open daily, 8am to 8pm, Hwy.12, Avon. 252-995-4402 or visit www.villagegroceryhi.com.
