In the heart of South Lake Tahoe, at the base of the Heavenly Gondola, lies an entire Village dedicated to your entertainment. The Heavenly Village boasts over 40 unique shops, eateries and activities that provide you with hours of Lake Tahoe fun. It’s the perfect place to spend a day sightseeing, shopping, eating and relaxing – a definite “must do” on your Lake Tahoe vacation list.
The shops at Heavenly Village is THE shopping center of South Lake Tahoe. Enjoy the traditional Tahoe ambience with a distinct European village flair...meandering cobblestone sidewalks, wooden archways, covered walkways, open bonfire pits, clock tower, stone fountain and more. The village offers an intriguingly eclectic mix of upscale lifestyle apparel and accessories, sporting goods, fine arts, jewelry and unique gifts. Relish in an afternoon of shopping and wine tasting!
The village offers a wide array of food and drink choices. You are certain to find exactly what you are craving. Enjoy lunch or dinner in one of the tantalizing eateries or admire the view from a mountaintop bistro while feasting on antipasto platters, shrimp cocktail or specialty sandwiches. Heavenly will expand the Appetite for Life healthy food initiative this season by eliminating trans fats in the cooking oils at all its on-mountain dining establishments. Appetite for Life debuted last season, offering hormone-free beef and poultry as well as organic dairy products at all on-mountain eateries.
And for the wine enthusiast, Wines on the Lake has wine tastings every day so you can enjoy some of the wines for sale before you make a purchase.
In the center of it all is the Heavenly Gondola, providing visitors the opportunity to view Lake Tahoe in all its glory. Capture an aerial view of the lake and mountains, adding your very own artistic flair, with a ride up the Gondola, a panoramic view of the lake that is only found in magazines and art studios. The awe-inspiring journey begins at Heavenly Village, where the Gondola goes 2.4 miles up the mountain to 9,123 feet, nearly 3,000 feet above the lake. The ride itself is stunning and offers unparalleled views of the desolation wilderness, Carson Valley, and of course, the sparkling waters of Lake Tahoe.
Two-thirds of the way up the mountainside, the Deck offers the perfect sightseeing venue. Nestled among the massive granite boulders, the 14,000-square-foot Deck provides high-powered viewing telescopes that allow visitors a close-up look at some of the destination’s best-known landmarks including Emerald Bay, Mount Tallac and Cascade Falls.
At the top of the Gondola, in its second season this summer, is the Heavenly Flyer, an elevated zip line cable ride that will take guests on a scenic adventure above beautiful Lake Tahoe. The Flyer propels riders at speeds up to 50mph as they cruise over the treetops and look out over the lake. With two separate lines, riders can enjoy the experience side-by-side with a friend. At 3,300 feet, the Heavenly Flyer is the longest zip line in the continental United States. Its 525-ft. vertical drop matches that of the Space Needle in Seattle, Washington. From the launching pad, stationed at the top of Tamarack Express, to the landing zone, situated above the top of the Gondola and the tubing hill, the total ride time is about 80 seconds. The Heavenly Flyer operates year-round, providing family fun for all seasons. The hours of operation are 11am to 3pm seven days a week. Tickets can be purchased at the Gondola ticket window or at the Adventure Peak Kiosk, located at the top of the Gondola. Lift tickets and sightseeing tickets are sold separately and are required to gain access to the Flyer.
The village offers everything you need for a full day of fun, from high-performance hiking equipment for a day on the mountains, to relaxing by the fireside with a glass of Merlot, to “shop-til-you-drop” stores and galleries. There’s something for everyone at the Shops at Heavenly Village. |
