Kono Hibachi & Asian Grill, Kansas City Prime Steakhouse
By: Paula Beckham

One of the most enjoyable parts of vacation is exploring the local dining scene and discovering great restaurants. In Myrtle Beach, you don’t have to look far. Kansas City Prime Steakhouse and its sister restaurants, Kono Asian Grill and Kono Hibachi, are two of the very best and they’re located at King Square, right in the heart of town.

From the moment you step through the arched doors framed by colorful stained glass, Kansas City Prime exceeds everything you expect in a top-notch steakhouse: luxurious ambience, first-rate service, and, of course, the finest in aged beef.

Whether you choose the New York strip, the cowboy 16-oz. bone-in ribeye, or the filet mignon, your steak will arrive wonderfully seasoned and grilled to sizzling perfection. Aged prime rib is slow roasted for maximum tenderness and flavor. You may also choose from beef short ribs and New Zealand lamb as well as other meat selections. Seafood lovers will find an enticing number of choices including Chilean sea bass, grilled tuna and swordfish, shrimp scampi, lobster tails and more.

A number of tasty chicken and pasta dishes round out the entrées.

Naturally, there are exceptional appetizers such as jumbo shrimp cocktail, spicy lobster or shrimp, crispy calamari, and traditional steakhouse sides like Lyonnaise potatoes, onion rings and sautéed mushrooms.

Next door, Kono Asian Grill makes an immediate impact with a sleek sophisticated décor more typically found in New York or Las Vegas. You’ll find warm red pendant lamps, a full bar, Sushi Bar and secluded booths out front while a towering golden statue of Buddha presides over the dining room with its dark wood and plush banquettes.

Even more impressive than the setting is the extensive menu which features Japanese, Chinese and Asian fusion cuisine.

Once considered exotic, sushi’s popularity has exploded and Kono’s expert sushi chefs have a vast repertoire, ranging from the classic spicy tuna, yellowtail and crab rolls to specialty rolls in a myriad of delectable creations. Combination platters of sushi and sashimi with up to 26 pieces are great for sharing.

Kono Hibachi’s dinners are as fun as they are delicious. Every meal feels like a celebration! The entertaining chefs demonstrate amazing deftness with knives and other utensils while preparing luscious meals right before your eyes. Choose from steak, chicken or shrimp or try the Kono special which includes all three!

For those who prefer it, Kono offers a nice selection of traditional Chinese dishes like sesame chicken, moo goo gai pan and shrimp with lobster sauce. There are also a number of Thai dishes including Pad Thai, a generous portion of noodles with shrimp, chicken, duck or vegetables.

You’ll find Kansas City Prime Steakhouse, Kono Asian Grill, and Kono Hibachi all located at 1901 N. Kings Hwy., Myrtle Beach.
