Captain George’s Seafood Restaurant
By: Jacqueline Palsha

Located across from Broadway at the Beach, Captain George’s houses more than the original World Famous Seafood Buffet. It’s the flagship of a celebrated dining dynasty spanning three generations of restaurateurs.

Created by George and Sherry Pitsilides, Captain George’s is a shining example of a successful family business and the American dream. The son of immigrants, George grew up working in his parents’ restaurant and realized at an early age that he wanted one of his own one day. When he married Sherry, who also came from a restaurant background, the two combined their talents and opened their first restaurant in 1975. That location eventually became the original Captain George’s, and a family franchise was born.

Today, George and Sherry’s children are actively involved in the business, and there are four locations, including the family’s newest venture in Myrtle Beach. Built from the ground up, this Captain George’s is the crowning jewel in the family-run chain and a testament to hard work, determination and, of course, great food.

The restaurant is renowned for its Alaskan crab legs. Sweet, salty and fresh from their native sea, they are as succulent as they come, and Captain George’s serves more of them than most. The chain is one of the top five purchasers of Alaskan crab legs in the world, but this is far from the only superstar on the menu. The mouthwatering buffet is peppered with signature recipes, all of which have been passed down through the generations and are prepared fresh daily on the premises.

The oysters Rockefeller is one of George’s own creations, served on the half-shell, topped with a creamed spinach sauce and baked with mozzarella cheese. The baked crab imperial is another original, a casserole packed with crabmeat and flavored with George’s own blend of ingredients. The restaurant sells take-home pans of this and its other original recipe casseroles to patrons all year long. Even the hush puppies are prepared from scratch, the famous dough fresh-fried to perfection.

With every forkful, it’s clear that Captain George’s is a cut above. Nearly everything on the menu is homemade from a family recipe. It’s a hallmark of the restaurant, and it’s why guests return again and again for entrées, desserts and side dishes that are not only delicious, but unique – and upscale.

The atmosphere at Captain George’s is equivalent to a fine dining restaurant. The gorgeous décor, the white linen service and the culinary integrity combine to create a beautiful dining experience and a time-honored recipe for success.

Visit Captain George’s today and enjoy its World Famous Seafood Buffet. The restaurant is located on the bypass road across from Broadway at the Beach, 1401 29th Ave. N. View their web site at
