Sunset Grille
By: Kerin Magill

Sunset Grille in West Ocean City remains one of the most popular bar and restaurant combinations in the resort. Owner Buddy Trala and his staff have spent the last six years maintaining the positive vibe that has always been associated with the Sunset Grille.

“We’ve created a comfortable place with a fun, casual atmosphere,” says Trala. “We try to provide a unique experience for all of our guests.” Nominated Restaurant Association of Maryland’s “Best Restaurant” in 2008, Sunset Grille continues to take pride in being Ocean City’s number one “hot spot.”

Spacious dining areas (inside and dockside), first and second floor bars, and an outside bar and grille known as Teaser’s create plenty of room to enjoy the island atmosphere, with live music on weekends. Live palm trees inside and out add to the bay-view ambiance, overlooking the beautiful Sunset Marina Harbor.

Trala and Executive Chef Mike Rabideau have put together a diverse menu. In addition to the main menu, special appetizers, entrées, and homemade desserts offer a fresh alternative for every taste.

An extensive list of appetizers and salads includes delicious Fried Green Tomatoes, Crab Dip, Oysters Rockefeller and Seared Ahi Tuna.

Lunch favorites include Jumbo Lump Crab Cake Sandwiches, fresh 8-ounce Certified Angus Beef burgers cooked to order, the popular Cobb Salad, and the famous tempura-battered soft-shell crabs served crisp and golden brown on a corn-dusted roll. Unlike most restaurants, you can order from the lunch menu from 11am until closing. “Some of our customers prefer a lighter fare for dinner as well as lunch,” said Trala.

Dinner choices include Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes, Daily Fresh Catch of the Day, Filet Mignon, Crab Imperial, Tempura Fried Lobster Tails, and Sesame Crusted or 7-Spice Tuna Mignon.

Sunset Grille offers an extensive wine list, regularly updated and chosen to appeal to all tastes and budgets. “Wines are carefully chosen to complement our menu items,” says Darren Cummings, General Manager of the Grille.

For a slightly “higher energy level” experience, just walk out the door from the main restaurant and spend some time at Teaser’s Bar & Grille. Teaser’s offers an open-air bar, outside dining and a great vantage point for enjoying some of the area’s best live entertainment.

As an added extra, Sunset Grille and Sunset Marina are the primary venues for nationally popular fishing tournaments and major events such as the White Marlin Open, Mid-Atlantic Tournament, and Delmarva Bike Week.

The Sunset Grille, located at 12933 Sunset Avenue, West Ocean City, is open seven days, year ‘round from 11am until closing; reservations are recommended, especially on weekends. Children’s menu offered. All major credit cards accepted. For reservations, call 410-213-8110.
