After more than 30 years as a jewelry designer and jewelry gallery owner, Gail Kowalski of Jewelry By Gail is a master at matching the right piece of jewelry to the person.
“My goal when helping someone is that the piece they select really needs to completely suit them and add an extra dimension to them,“ says Gail. “I love being involved in helping someone find the piece that helps them express who they are.“
Gail and her staff do this by taking a lot of time to get to know the person and to find the pieces that work for them.
“We like matching the look, colors and gem to bring out someone’s personality and to enhance their looks,“ says Gail. “One piece will always pop more than another. I always want the piece to be outstanding on the person. There’s no point in something being less than optimal. You can really see the difference between what works and what doesn’t.“
Gail will even custom fit jewelry and adjust it to the person.
No doubt this level of service is why Gail has developed such a strong customer base and high level of repeat business during the 32 years she has been designing jewelry in Nags Head. Of course, her one-of-a-kind jewelry might have something to do with that as well.
Gail is an artist, and each of her creations is a piece of original art. Her loyal customers are assured that no one else will ever have a piece like theirs, because another one like it does not exist. Even the pieces in Gail’s signature collections, which may be based on a design theme, are different.
“I love one-of-a-kinds,“ says Gail. “I get bored with repetition. Nothing we do here is conventional. Our look is very distinct.“
In working with gems and metals, Gail maintains a sense of artistic awe and wonder that feeds her creativity.
“It’s a never-ending fascination to me that these rocks came out of the earth,“ says Gail. “It’s amazing that the earth yields up such enormous variety and that I can find it and do something with it. Jewelry is such a special treasure.“
Gail’s favorite gemstones are natural, fancy-colored diamonds. These gems come in a range of colors, from lavender to honey to cognac to champagne and beyond, and Gail creates original works of art around them.
Gail is a multiple award-winning designer in gold, platinum and gems. Also on her staff is Randy Snider, a goldsmith and master gemstone cutter who specializes in faceting and repair. Gail’s husband, David Stewart, offers a full jewelry appraisal service.
This summer, Jewelry By Gail’s Treasure Chest Extravaganza is bringing an element of surprise into shopping. Gail has stocked a treasure chest with gemstones, jewelry, treasures and gift certificates. From June through September 5, customers who are already on the mailing list or who spend more than $99 in the store will receive a key. If the key opens the chest, the customer picks out a velvet pouch that contains a delightful surprise.
