Local Shells Along the Eastern Shore
By: Sea Shell Shop

Local Delaware shells can be found. The best time to look is in the early mornings, after a storm or at low tide. Starfish and seahorses are out there searching for their morning meal in the shallow waters. In the spring and fall, sometimes thousands wash up on the shore… Whelks (sometimes incorrectly called conchs) can also be found along the mud flats and grassy bottoms, especially in the State Parks and Delaware Bay. Empty whelks can be found along the shore, along with pieces of deep purple wampum, which was once used as money for trade by American Indians. A local sand dollar can also be found buried just below the sand. Here are just a few of the many local shells that you can find.
