Candy Kitchen

As if the decadence of chocolate and the joyous flavors of salt water taffy weren’t enticing enough – a visit to Candy Kitchen is a treat for more than just your taste buds.  It’s also a feast for the eyes – decorated in bright colors inspired by the many candies displayed on the store’s seemingly endless counters.  You just can’t help but smile.

Now, visitors to Candy Kitchen’s newest store at Midway, Route 1 in Rehoboth can experience part of Candy Kitchen’s “secret formula” for success.  From 9am-11pm throughout the summer, candy aficionados can watch for themselves as Candy Kitchen employees dip chocolates in the store’s “showcase” production room – giving customers a closer look into the company’s candy-making operations.  The new store at Midway took its cue from Candy Kitchen’s flagship store, located on 53rd Street in Ocean City, which offers a similar glimpse into the making of Candy Kitchen’s sumptuous treats.

According to Bruce Leiner, whose uncle, the late Sam Taustin started Candy Kitchen in 1937, Candy Kitchen is still a family-owned and operated business with their homemade candies still made fresh daily in Ocean City, Maryland.  Leiner says his wife Cindy is the company’s “creative genius.”  She has been the driving force behind the re-design on many of the 21 stores which are located among the beach resorts from Virginia Beach, VA to Rehoboth Beach, DE.

For 72 years, Candy Kitchen has been the place to go for a sweet treat at the beach.  Just how many types of candy does Candy Kitchen have?  “Hundreds,” Bruce Leiner says; almost 100 varieties of chocolates, 20 flavors of salt water taffy, more than 30 types of fudge and close to 75 different gummies.  Plus, Candy Kitchen’s make-your-own-sundaes continue to be a summertime hit for families – they are available at several Candy Kitchen locations throughout the summer months. And you just can’t beat the out-and-out decadence of Candy Kitchen’s chocolate-covered strawberries.

Perhaps the best news for candy lovers is that they can have that Candy Kitchen experience all year, all day, every day with a wide selection of signature treats available online at www.candykitchen.com.  In addition to finding your favorites online, the Web Site also offers custom orders for holiday parties and other events.
