Ocean adventures await year ‘round at Sarasota’s Mote Aquarium, home to more than 100 marine species. Located on City Island just north of St. Armands Circle, Mote offers lots to “sea” for visitors and locals alike, including two awesome new exhibits.
The Seahorse Conservation Laboratory spotlights seahorses and their young. You can learn about the threats wild seahorses face, and watch Mote aquarists raise these fragile fish. Guests might even witness a little seahorse romance or spot a pregnant dad – male seahorses are the only animal dads that get pregnant.
At Mote’s other new exhibit, Sea Turtles: Ancient Survivors, you can meet real sea turtles, learn about the threats they face in the wild, and follow the oceangoing journeys of turtles tagged by scientists at Mote Marine Laboratory, the world-renowned research institution that gave rise to Mote Aquarium.
Guests can also see dolphins, manatees, sharks, fish and other denizens of Southwest Florida’s Gulf Coast.
Mote Aquarium is open 365 days a year from 10am-5pm. Admission is $17 for adults, $16 for seniors (age 65 and older), $12 for children (ages 4-12) and free to children 3 and younger. To learn more, call 941-388-4441, e-mail info@mote.org or visit www.mote.org. |
