The Sarasota Film Festival truly offers something for everyone. The festival's mission is to present unique and quality cinema in a festival atmosphere for the purpose of educating, stimulating, and entertaining audiences. The festival supports and encourages the filmmaker by supplying essential networking opportunities and open dialogue with intelligent, creative and inquisitive consumers of film.
Now in its 12th year, the festival has established itself as one of the most popular events in the community and is well respected within the film industry. It attracts audiences from local, national and international markets, and promotes Sarasota, Manatee and surrounding Gulf Coast communities as cultural centers that contribute to the financial and cultural success of their region.
In 2009, the festival screened over 200 films. Films at many festivals may be "edgy" in content, and the Sarasota Film Festival is no exception. However, unlike most festivals, the Sarasota Film Festival truly has something for everyone. Independent, major commercial studio productions, foreign, domestic, documentary, short, and animated films are among the wide range of offerings.
After a day of watching films you'll be ready for one of the festival's special events. These parties range from black tie galas to concerts to casual social mixers, and often have almost as many stars as the night sky above.
