The Historic Villages at Cape Henry should be near the top of your “things to do” list while visiting Virginia Beach. History comes alive at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, within minutes of the Virginia Beach oceanfront.
You’ll be escorted on a picturesque stroll back in time, through the winding trails of the American Indian village, and the authentic 17th-century outpost, complete with palisade, church and trading post. Perhaps you will encounter a nautical storyteller, American Indian Tribal member, boat builder or hear one of the docents explain the vast array of plants and animals native to the area. Tours run every Thurs., Fri. and Sat., May 27 through Sept. 4, with a variety of historical interpreters, educators and presentations each day between 2pm and 6pm.
The play 1607:First Landing, by local playwright Chip Fortier, will run Thursday and Saturday evenings at 6pm July 8 through Aug. 21, on the unique outdoor stage, built exclusively for the production in 2007 with a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean.
Please check the Web site: www.firstlandingfoundation.org for additional information including new educational programs.
Tours are $8 for adults and $5 for youth, ages 6-15. Tour plus the 6pm performance: $15 for adults and $10 for youth, ages 6-15. Children 5 years and younger are free.
