Since 1952 the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia (CAC) has been bringing culture to the beach through exhibitions by national and internationally renowned artists. CAC’s history is rooted in the annual Boardwalk Art Show & Festival, and this summer the CAC is exploring the past by opening its vault and sharing with the public some “Best in Show” winners from years past.
Our Museum Evolution: Select Works from the Boardwalk Art Show Collection commemorates the 55th Annual Boardwalk Art Show with a visual history of the museum. A wide variety of works including painting, sculpture, photography, jewelry and more will be on display.
Also on view is Elizabeth Huey: Invisible Affect and Celebrating Renata Keep. Huey, a Virginia Beach native, creates large-scale paintings that explore the history of psychology and the mental health system in the United States. Her mentor, Renata Keep, is a local legend who has had ties to CAC since the 1950s. For more information on summer programming, visit www.cacv.org.
